Erfurt, Germany

Erfurt is located 250 km north-east of Frankfurt. The old town is one of the most intact medieval cities in Germany. Situated on the Via Regia, a medieval trade and pilgrims’ road network, the town was first mentioned in 742, it was part of the Electorate of Mainz during the Holy Roman Empire, and later became part of the Kingdom of Prussia. The university was founded in 1379, and hosted the ESSWE conference in 2017.
